Michelle Obama wears $1,500 Isabel Toledo shift on Inauguration Day
Fashionistas have worked themselves into a frenzy over Michelle Obama’s inaugural attire. And now, we have a glimpse.
The new first lady kicked off Inauguration Day with a (fashionable) bang, donning a pale yellow wool lace Isabel Toledo shift with matching overcoat for an early morning trip to church alongside her husband , subsequent photo opp with the Bushes and the inauguration itself..
Green pumps, a diamond brooch and diamond studs completed the stylishly eclectic-yet-elegant ensemble which, next to Laura Bush’s simple grey double-breasted pantsuit and charcoal heels, marked a visual example that change is a’coming to Washington.
The outfit “was made for Michelle with extra warm linings sewn into the [innerlinings] that she wouldn’t freeze,” Toledo’s husband told the Daily News.
A spring version of the dress – which will retail for around $1,500 – will hit Barney’s in March.
This isn’t the first time Obama has donned Toledo’s gear: The Cuban-American designer’s off-the-rack swingy black tunic and pants turned up on the first lady at a Calvin Klein event in June.

Obama’s debut inaugural outfit – which follows her all-J. Crew Inauguration Eve attire – is one of many to come. The first lady and new president are expected to breeze through 10 different balls, in addition to the inauguration.
